No one knows how to make the most out of
a beach as well as the Brazilians do. It is justifiably called a “Culture”.
Beaches in Brazil are simultaneously a social scene, a place to show off
one´s body (most importantly) and to soak up that glorious sunshine.
Of course, the famous Brazilian Beach Girls, wearing the smallest bikini
they can find, and the “hunks” donning their tiny Speedos, form the essential
framework of the sandy arena.
The entire point of going to the beach in Brazil is to show off your
body to the whole world, no matter what shape it may be in, nor what age
it may be! No one would be seen dead wearing some bulky swimming costume
sometimes seen in the West. The body itself is a cult and an end unto itself.
Brazilians are very much at ease with their bodies and have no sense
of shame. Instead they enjoy and celebrate their flamboyant displays.
Brazilian Beach Girls have great skin and choose to wear the tiniest bikinis
they can possibly find. The dental floss bikini ( “fio dental” in Portuguese)
fashionable a little while back, left little to the imagination. It also
led to this joke:
Two Australian sharks meet off the coast of Rio. One says to the
other “I hear the food around here is really good” “oh
yeah mate, why is that?” asked the other, “ because it comes complete with
dental floss!”
The
sexy Brazilian Beach Girls are certainly a sight to behold. Even more so,
on the fashionable beaches of Rio, where they are obsessed with their figure.
Despite their provocative appearance, however, nudity is generally considered
taboo and it would be rare to see a topless woman on any of the popular
beaches.
The beach scene at the bay, in front of “Casa Sejala”, here at
São Tomé in Salvador, is quite a different matter to that
of Rio for example. Sure you still get the gorgeous Brazilian Beach Girls,
but it is much more a favorite spot for all day family gatherings. So on
any sunny Sunday; many families make their way down to the bay in São
Tomé. Because the beach is very protected and flat, it is extremely
safe for children. At low tide the guys play soccer and there are always
a few beach volleyball games in action.
The many beachside Barracas are always full with Brazilians of all shapes
and sizes eating and drinking and swaying to the Samba music. Lively discussions
about football, politics and the latest soap operas can go on for hours.
Many families also bring along their own little charcoal BBQ´S and
cook up a feast! Most Brazilians living anywhere near a beach will hit
the sand as often and as long as possible, transforming the outing into
a big social event.
